The call
A family came home to a Papakura house with the back door forced. Police had been and gone; the door would not close, let alone lock, and a set of spare keys had been taken from a kitchen drawer.
What we did
First, make safe: we repaired the split jamb, fitted a reinforcing strike plate and a new Lockwood deadbolt, and got the door closing squarely. Then, because a spare set was gone, we rekeyed every remaining external cylinder so those keys were dead.
Every stage was photographed and the invoice itemised in the wording insurers expect, which meant the claim went through without a second visit.
The lesson
After a burglary, replacing the broken lock is only half the job. If any keys were taken, everything they open has to change too — and good documentation on the night saves weeks on the claim.
