The call
A Manurewa homeowner reviewing their contents policy noticed the wording expected external doors to be fitted with deadlocks. Two of their three doors had only a spring latch in the handle set.
What we did
We fitted keyed deadbolts to the front, back and internal garage doors, all keyed alike so one key runs the house, and added keyed catches to two ground-floor bedroom windows. The whole job took an afternoon and the homeowner sent photos to the insurer the same day.
The lesson
Read the security clause in your policy before you need to claim, not after. Most homes need a deadlock on every external door and lockable windows on the ground floor, and most fall short somewhere.
