The call
A resident returned from a late shift to an Albany apartment block and realised her keys were still in her locker at work. Building management had gone home hours earlier.
What we did
We verified her tenancy through the after-hours body corporate contact before touching the door, then opened the apartment cylinder non-destructively. Because the building runs a restricted key system, we could not simply cut her a spare — restricted keys can only be issued by the registered system holder against a signed authority, which we explained and pointed her to for the morning.
The lesson
Apartment lockouts have an extra layer: the body corporate. Keep the after-hours building contact in your phone, not on a noticeboard inside the building you cannot get into.
