The warning sign
The lever plate on this Greenlane door had worked loose and the handle was sitting out of line. The latch still moved, but every use was adding strain to the spindle and internal spring.
The repair
We dismantled the furniture, checked the latch and spindle, corrected the alignment and secured the fixings before testing the door from both sides. The lever returned cleanly and the latch engaged without resistance.
Do not wait for the handle to fail
Movement at the plate or a drooping lever usually gets worse quickly. Early adjustment is generally simpler than replacing a broken latch after the door stops opening.
