The call

What we did
Japanese imports are routine work for us. We decoded the door lock to get the mechanical cutting, cut a key on the van, and programmed the transponder through the OBD port with an Xhorse tool. All previously programmed keys were erased — with a handbag stolen, the missing keys and her address were potentially in the same hands.
The lesson
'The dealer cannot do it' does not mean it cannot be done. A large share of Auckland's fleet is ex-Japan, and an auto locksmith with the right tooling can usually key those vehicles when a franchise dealer will not.
