The call
A couple settled on a townhouse two streets back from Takapuna Beach and inherited a keyring with four different keys — front, back, garage side door and a laundry. The property had been tenanted for six years, so the honest answer to 'how many copies exist?' was nobody knows.
What we did
All four cylinders were Lockwood and in good condition, so replacement was unnecessary. We rekeyed all of them to one new key on site, supplied four keys, and dead-lined every old key in the process. The garage side door cylinder was seized with salt corrosion, so that one we replaced with a marine-grade unit — Takapuna is close enough to the water that budget hardware simply does not last.
The lesson
Rekeying is usually the first thing new owners should book and the last thing they think of. It costs less than new hardware, kills every old key, and gets a whole property down to one key on the ring.
