The call
A family at Hobsonville Point wanted to stop cutting keys for two teenagers and a weekly cleaner. They had seen smart locks online and wanted to know whether they are actually worth it.
What we did
We fitted a eufy smart lock with a keypad and fingerprint reader on the front door, set individual codes for each family member and a time-limited code for the cleaner, and kept a mechanical key override. The back door stayed mechanical and was rekeyed to match the existing garage key.
The lesson
Smart locks are excellent at managing who gets in and when. They are not a substitute for a solid door and frame — an electronic lock on a weak jamb is still a weak door. Fit both, and always keep a mechanical override.
