The call
A contracting business in Papatoetoe had lost a day's work when the only key to one of its Ford Rangers went missing on site. The owner rang us to make sure it never happened again across the other five vehicles.
What we did
One visit to the yard, six vehicles, twelve keys. Because each ute still had a working key, every spare was a straightforward add rather than an origination — roughly a third of the cost per vehicle of the emergency job that started it. Keys were tagged by rego and a spare set locked in the office safe.
The lesson
For fleets, spare keys are cheap insurance against downtime. Do them in one visit while every vehicle still has a key and you pay the low rate.
