The call
A family near St Heliers Bay was juggling school pickups, a dog walker and grandparents who visit weekly — and hiding a spare key under a pot plant was wearing thin. They wanted keyless entry that everyone could use without an app on every phone.
The door was a solid timber panel door in good condition, which makes it a great candidate for a Yale smart lock — no need to replace the door or butcher the joinery.
What we installed
We supplied and fitted a Yale smart lock with PIN code entry, RFID swipe cards and a mechanical key override tucked under the handle. Each family member got their own code, the dog walker got a card, and the override key means a flat battery can never lock them out.
Installation took about ninety minutes, including setting up the codes and running everyone through how to add and delete users themselves. The old deadbolt came away cleanly and the door needed no patching.
The lesson
Smart locks suit busy households where keys multiply and disappear. The key override is the feature people skip when buying off the shelf — we never install one without it.
